The Axe and Square has been a pub for at least 120 years. We are situated in the centre of Countesthorpe, a beautiful village near Leicester, with ample parking on site.
We arrived at The Axe and Square in November 2022, following a £650,000 refurbishment. It had been closed for almost 3 years. Our builders have worked tirelessly for 3 months to double to the size of the pub and transform it to a very high standard. We feel privileged to be the custodian of such a beautiful pub and restaurant.

We welcome you to come and sample our warm and caring hospitality. You will find lots of cosy corners, with log burners for the winter and a sun-trap garden and terrace for the summer. We have created a little oasis of calm in a busy world; a chance to relax and escape from the pressures of life.

We pride ourselves on doing things well, whether it’s a perfectly poured drink, delicious coffee from St Martins of Leicester or creating delicious food using the very best ingredients.
We serve jolly good food with an exciting menu, midweek lunch deals, special treats and wholesome Sunday roasts. Children are welcome and can dine from our Young Diners menu. Our food is fresh, delicious, always plentiful and always great value.

So, who are your hosts? Well, you will soon meet Dan the General Manager – he’s the handsome dude who’s always smiling. Curtis is our Assistant Manager; you can’t miss him with his loud shirts!
Working hard behind the scenes is our Head Chef, Jack, with his brigade of eight chefs, producing jolly good food, seven days a week for us all to enjoy!
We are part of the same Roseacre family as The Dovecote in Narborough, The Lime Tree in Whetstone and The Bull in Broughton Astley.
